From the cone to the swift….

Prepared some dye stuff: avocado pits, onion skins, and avocado skins…

Skeins of silk were scoured, then “rhubarbs” or mordanted with rhubarb leaves solution.

After achieving various shades of brown, we managed to get some interesting colours with iron water as modifiers.

The iron however seems to change the texture of the silk yarn making it quite difficult to ball up using the swift. So Margaret and Eleanor spent much of the afternoon balling one skein!
